Drew McIntyre will return to WWE TV this summer, with sources indicating he'll appear at SummerSlam on August 1 and 2.

What happened?

Drew McIntyre has been absent from WWE programming since WrestleMania 42, where he lost an Unsanctioned Match to Jacob Fatu.

Why the absence?

McIntyre's absence was due to filming his remaining scenes for the Highlander reboot, where he'll portray Angus MacLeod.

He finished filming in late May and was advertised for WWE shows, but hasn't resurfaced on TV yet.

What comes next?

McIntyre is expected to return to WWE TV at SummerSlam, alongside Randy Orton, who's been sidelined with a back injury.

Orton main evented WrestleMania 42 night one, losing to Cody Rhodes, but his post-match actions suggested the programme would continue.

McIntyre was reportedly the backup plan for the main event of Clash in Italy, had Jacob Fatu not been cleared to compete.

The internal document within WWE circulated this month included both Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre in connection with SummerSlam.

Sources within WWE have noted McIntyre and Orton appear to be on track to return for the WWE pay-per-view scheduled for August 1 and 2 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
